Chat and conversations
Chat is the entry point for working with an organization agent or an AI model in Open Chat. Each conversation retains its messages, files, sources, and generated results.
Starting a conversation
- Select New conversation in the sidebar.
- Choose one of these modes:
- GESCON: uses agents with their instructions, sources, skills, and enabled features.
- Open Chat: starts a chat with the provider and model of your choice.
- Write your message and press
Enterto send it. UseShift+Enterto insert a new line.
You can also start a chat from an agent card or use selected documents and routes as context.
If you change the agent or chat mode after starting, GESCON asks for confirmation because subsequent responses may use different context and capabilities.
Adding features and context
Depending on the agent configuration, the tools menu lets you:
- Enable web search, deep research, or expert mode.
- Choose available personal connectors and integrations.
- Attach multiple files with the selector or by dragging them onto the chat.
An agent can allow, require, or disable each capability. Locked options show the policy set by the person who configured the agent.
Understanding a response
You can stop a response while it is being generated. When it finishes, GESCON may show:
- The generated text and files.
- Operational reasoning and tools used, when available.
- Web sources or documents supporting the response.
- Tables, metrics, charts, or interactive presentations.
Message actions let you copy it, rate it positively or negatively, and, with the appropriate permissions, turn it into validated knowledge or create a notice.
Generated files and visualizations
Generated files appear alongside the conversation and can be previewed or downloaded. GESCON supports documents, PDFs, and spreadsheets, among other formats; spreadsheets are shown as tabs when they contain multiple sheets.
Charts can be enlarged, copied as an image, or downloaded as HTML. When an equivalent data table exists, you can also inspect it to review the exact values.
Organizing history
The sidebar groups recent conversations by date. From each conversation menu, you can:
- Pin or unpin it.
- Rename it.
- Move it to a folder.
- Delete it after confirmation.
You can also search conversations and create, rename, or delete folders. When deleting a folder, you must decide what to do with its conversations.
Recommendations
- State the goal, expected format, and any important constraints.
- Check sources before reusing sensitive or critical information.
- Use an agent when you need organizational knowledge; use Open Chat for general queries.
- Start a new conversation when changing topics and you do not want to carry over the previous context.
